The much publicised mythological drama ‘Mahabharat’ had a slow start in the UK ratings last night, according to exclusive data obtained by BizAsia.

The 60-minute launch special episode at 20:30 pulled in an average of 102,900 viewers – peaking at 127,900 viewers during the course of the show. Comparatively, when Star Plus launched its last big ticket show ‘SaraswatiChandra’ earlier this year, it launched with a bang with over 240,000 viewers tuning in. It will be interesting to see how viewers will adjust to watching a Hindu religious drama in the middle of primetime.

The most watched show in UK last night was ‘Pyar Ka Dard Hai’ with 204,800 viewers, followed by ‘SaraswatiChandra’ with 186,000 viewers and ‘Meri Bhabhi’ in third with 133,800 viewers.

The others in the pecking order were ‘Veera’ (121,700), ‘Saathiya’ (104,700), ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’ (103,400), ‘Mahabharat’ (102,900), ‘Ek Ghar Banaunga’ (58,000) and ‘Iss Pyar Ko Kya Naam Doon 2’ (31,100).

On Colors, ‘Bigg Boss 7’ sustained good viewership with a respectable 71,600 viewers at 21:00, followed by ‘Balika Vadhu’ with 21,800 viewers and ‘Uttaran’ with 15,500 viewers.

On Star Life Ok, ‘Mahadev’ was back on top with 29,600 viewers at 20:00, followed by ‘Gustakh Dil with 19,700 viewers and ‘Ek Boond Ishq’ with 15,600 viewers. ‘Do Dil Ek Jaan’ was in fourth with 13,800 viewers. Re-runs ‘Geet’ got 10,900 viewers, while ‘Iss Pyar Ko Kya Naam Doon’ got 1,000 viewers in Hindi. Zero in English at 18:00.

On Rishtey, ‘Bani – Ishq Da Kalma’ was top with 90,400 viewers, followed by ‘Parichay’ with 70,400 viewers and ‘Laagi Tujhse Lagan’ with 52,500 viewers.

On Sony SAB TV, ‘Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’ was top with 52,200 viewers, followed by ‘Baal Veer’ with 43,100 viewers and ‘Chidiyaghar’ with 19,100 viewers.
