The first match in the much talked about Indian Premier League 6 season has drawn a similar audience in the UK for broadcaster ITV4, like it did last year.

According to exclusive data obtained by BizAsia, the 4.5 hour coverage, which kicked off at 15:00 yesterday attracted 240,200 viewers (total viewing including +1) – peaking at 366,100 viewers. The first match was between last year’s champions Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Daredevils.

Last year, the first match Chennai Super Kings vs Mumbai Indians attracted 233,700 viewers.

On the Asian TV channels, Star Plus’ ‘SaraswatiChandra’ was back on top of UK ratings with a stronger than normal performance. It pulled in 261,000 viewers at 19:30 – making it the most watched Asian show in the UK yesterday. It peaked further to 292,000 viewers during the show. In second place was ‘MasterChef India’ with 258,900 viewers, followed by ‘Diya Aur Baati Hum’ with 244,500 viewers.

The others in the pecking order were ‘Saathiya’ (224,100), ‘ Pyar Ka Dard Hai’ (186,800), ‘Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hai’ (181,500), ‘Veera’ (140,700) and ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’ (134,700).

On Rishtey, it was ‘Jeevan Saathi’, which won the most viewers on the channel at 20:00 with 45,800 viewers, followed by ‘Bairi Piya’ with 31,000 viewers.

On Zing, ‘Dance India Dance’ at 15:00 attracted an impressive 30,700 viewers. ‘Cloud 9’ at 18:30 and 22:30 rated zero.

On Star Life Ok, ‘Devon Ka Dev Mahadev’ at 20:00 remained the most watched show on the channel with 33,000 viewers, followed by ‘Ek Thi Naayka’ at 22:00, which got 28,600 and ‘Savdhaan India’ – attracting 14,700 viewers.

On Sony SAB TV, ‘Chidiyaghar’ got a record 122,600 viewers at 21:00 – the highest any show has got ever in the UK on the channel. ‘Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma’ at 20:30 got record ratings too with 99,100 viewers and ‘BaalVeer’ was next with 73,300 viewers.
