The final of this year’s Indian Premier League yesterday registered the biggest ever audience in the UK, according to exclusive data obtained by BizAsia.
The cricket event, which saw Kolkata Knight Riders lift the winning trophy for the second consecutive year, was watched by a massive 505,400 viewers between 15:00 and 19:55 on ITV4. This peaked further to a record 888,900 viewers during the last few minutes of the match. If compared to last year’s data, this year’s IPL coverage on ITV4 was up by over 100,000 viewers. Last year the finale was watched by 394,900 viewers. It will be interesting to see how the ratings will be impacted next year when the IPL moves to Sky Sports.
On Star Plus, ‘Star Parivaar Awards – Sunhere Pal’ at 21:00 was the most watched show on UK Asian television with 51,900 viewers, followed by ‘IIFA Weekend 2014 – Road To Tampa’ at 20:00 with 49,700 viewers.
On Colors, ‘Comedy Nights With Kapil’ at 22:00 featuring Himesh Reshammiya was viewed by 45,100 viewers. ‘Mission Sapne’ featuring Karan Johar at 20:00 was second most watched on the channel with 37,500 viewers tuning in. The filler between 21:00 – 22:00 – highlights of ‘Comedy Nights With Kapil’ raked in 34,500 viewers.
On Rishtey, discussion show ‘Aamne Samne’ at 21:30 was top show with 31,600 viewers, while the Pakistani drama ‘Aasmano Pe Likha’ was down to just 7,600 viewers.
On Sony SAB TV, the free-to-air premiere of modern classic ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ at 21:00 attracted 22,600 viewers – peaking at 48,000 viewers.
