Overnights: Dunya News leads Friday’s primetime in UK

Dunya News has been climbing up UK ratings over the past few weeks, with the channel claiming lead in primetime audience numbers for Friday night, according to exclusive data obtained by BizAsiaLive.com .

The Urdu news channel had the biggest average audience between 19:00 – 23:00 compared to other Pakistani rivals. The channel delivered 4,500 viewers, compared to 1,500 viewers for Geo News and UK 44 each, while Geo Tez and Samaa TV both registering under 1k viewers (average) during the same band.

When compared all-day (06:00 – 01:00) output for Friday, Geo News had the overall lead with 4,600 viewers average, followed by Dunya News with 3,200 viewers. UK 44 and Samaa TV both averaged with around 1,000 viewers and Geo Tez slipped behind with around 400 viewers.

Things may change in the coming days when ARY World – New Vision TV begins BARB reporting. The big question will be if ARY World will be able to claw back the same kind of viewership as it did when ARY News was previously available in the UK.

Above data is an overnight rating supplied by Attentional – and may change slightly after consolidated figures become available in seven days from BARB.

  1. Unsure if ARY World will be able to gain the same level of viewership as before. It has very little (if any at all) live courage. News headlines are pre-recorded and often edited, and thus a good few hours old. In the pass month, I have seen daily talk shows repeated from the previously week, the morning show frequently repeated from last year. Other programmes are often old too. To be a success news channel you need to provided the public with live and updated courage 24/7. Geo, Dunya and others do provide this and deserve the ratings. I’ve always been a big fan of ARY News, although at present they need to be better to stay in the tops. It is hoped with time, New Vision TV broadcasting issues can improve………….good luck to them!
