'Diya Aur Baati Hum' tops Star Plus UK ratings

There was a change in the pecking order amongst the Asian dramas on UK TV, with ‘Diya Aur Baati Hum’ on Star Plus topping the ratings on Friday night – first time in months.

The show, which airs at 21:00 weeknights pulled in 180,200 – peaking further at 223,600 later in the show. Recently, the drama has faced heat from rivals ‘Pyar Ka Dard Hai Meetha Meetha Pyara Pyara’ and ‘Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hai’ recently in the UK.

‘Pyar Ka Dard Hai Meetha Meetha Pyara Pyara’ was the UK’s second most watched Asian TV show with an audience of 177,400 – peaking at 205,500. It was followed by ‘Veera’ at 22:30 with 150,100 viewers tuning in.

‘Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hai’ was next with 133,300 and ‘Saathiya’ sat in fifth place with 112,100.

‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’ tumbled down in the ratings on Friday night with one of its lowest ever viewership. Only 48,800 tuned in to see the latest developments between Akshara and Naitik at 21:30.

On Zing, ‘Cloud 9’ was unable to sustain its audience high from Thursday night. It was back down to a zero rating at 10:30, 16:30 and 22:30. Only the 18:30 original episode got below a thousand viewers tuning in.

On Rishtey, ‘Jeevan Saathi’ at 20:00 continued to be the dependable channel driver with 72,900 switching on, followed by ‘Bairi Piya’ with an audience of 66,400. ‘Jaane Kya Baat Hui’ at 19:00 pulled in an impressive 57,000 viewers.

Sony SAB TV had a fantastic night with its alternative comedy programming. New sitcom ‘Hum Aap Ke Hai In-Laws’ with a commendable 25,300 viewers. The other new show ‘Tota Weds Maina’ at 22:30 and ‘Jeanie Aur Juju’ at 21:30 also did very well for the channel. Both shows had an average of 24,800. ‘Baal Veer’ at 20:00 continues to be the dependable ratings winner with 22,300 viewers tuning in.
