Overnights: ‘DDLJ’ puts Sony MAX ahead of movie rivals on Saturday in UK

The repeat telecast of blockbuster ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ on Sony MAX, was enough to give the broadcaster an edge over its movie rivals, according to exclusive data obtained by BizAsiaLive.com.

Sony MAX was top with a share of 0.09% – on par with Star Plus. It was beaten by its sister channel, Sony TV, which garnered a share of 0.12%. Amongst other movie channels, B4U Movies delivered a share of 0.03%, ZEE Cinema, Sony MAX 2 and Star Gold with 0.02%. Colors Cineplex registered 0.01%.

Despite big movie titles across all Asian TV networks on Saturday, the cult classic ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ beat them all with 32,000 viewers at 17:00. Incidentally, the channel’s tactic to fend off rivalry from Star Plus with premiere of ‘Angrezi Medium’, with telecast of ‘Hindi Medium’ at the same time on Sony MAX, failed. The latter could only pull in 3,800 viewers at 20:45, compared to 25,100 viewers for ‘Angrezi Medium’ on Star Plus.

Meanwhile, ZEE TV’s channel premiere of ‘Simmba’ managed to rake in 12,500 viewers at 15:00.

Sony SAB TV also did well yesterday with its line-up of movies – ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ pulled in 16,800 viewers at 19:45, followed by ‘Saajan’ at 13:30 with 10,700 viewers.
