‘OUATIMD’ release in doubt due to ‘Chennai Express’ success?

'OUATIMD' release in doubt?

Rohit Shetty and the team of ‘Chennai Express’ are probably in non-stop celebration mode what with a highly successful weekend at the all important box office. So much so is the impact of their success that makers of this week’s release, ‘Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobaara’, are now unsure whether their film will get the best opening it could get if it were to release as scheduled on Friday.

Undoubtedly, ‘Chennai Express’, having already become the second highest grosser of 2013 after ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’, will somewhat overshadow a release that comes in the consequent weeks. The film has already overtaken ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ which released a month ago. News has it that producer of ‘OUATIMD’, Ekta Kapoor, may now be feeling a little threatened by the runaway success of ‘Chennai Express’.

Rajesh Thadani, a leading distributor, spoke to Mumbai Mirror, “Had there been no opposition fromChennai Express, OUATIMDwould have eventually had bigger collections and OUATIMD will also eat into the other’s revenues. But the SRK starrer has already proven itself. A lot depends on Monday and Tuesday’s collections”.

Sanjay Ghai, a prominent distributor in Punjab and Delhi, also said, “The logic is very simple. Two trains cannot run on the same track. HadChennai Expressbeen disliked by the masses, the downfall would have reflected on Saturday itself and if it continues to do well, single screens will prefer it overOnce Upon A Time in Mumbaai Dobaara“.

There has been no comment from Balaji Motion Pictures or Ekta Kapoor but it remains to be seen whether the filmmaker will indeed postpone the release of her movie to make sure it gets the best fate possible at the box office.
