Oppo replaces Star India as Team India sponsor

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed Oppo as Team India’s new sponsor, replacing Star TV India.

The mobile brand has signed a sponsorship deal valid from April 2017 for a period of five years. According to Hindustan Times, the deal is said to be worth around Rs 1079 crore. It outbid Vivo mobile’s bid of Rs 768 crore.

The report adds that Oppo will pay three times more than what Star TV India did. Oppo will pay Rs. 4.61 per bilateral match and Rs. 1.56 for ICC event match. Star TV India in comparison paid Rs. 1.92 crore per bilateral match and Rs. 61 lakh for an ICC match.

The title sponsorship rights include branding of Oppo as the title sponsor at all international or domestic series. Visibility at the stadium during both international and domestic matches, broadcast sponsorship rights, and a host of other rights. Oppo will now be able to advertise itself on player t-shirts, on the boundary rope, cricket grounds and hoardings near the boundary etc.

Star TV India had earlier said it had no plans to renew its sponsorship deal, which it signed in 2013.
