During his 36 years in the film industry, Om Puri has made an international name for himself. Delivering some unforgettable performances, the actor has now decided to make a film based on his own life.

Apparently, filmmaker Shyama Benegal was the one who first to come up with the idea. “Shyam Benegal told me: ‘I smell a film in your life’. The smell he spoke about has now reached my nostrils. I feel my life is composed of many chapters – of hardships, struggle, heartbreak, success and failure,”Times of India reported the actor confirming.

Although Puri has often played supporting actor roles, he never fails to impress with the diversity of his characters in different genres of film. However, not much is revealed about his personal life. “My mother was the biggest influence in my life. I watched her being physically abused by my father. Every week he’d slap her once or twice. I’d seethe in rage and wonder why my mother took it. Many years later I came to know the reason for my father’s anger,” Puri went on to confirm.

Apparently, Puri felt that a book would be a great way to present his life to his audiences, however, as he is very much part of the film industry, making a biopic would be much easier. It was also reported that Puri has plans on directing the movie as well. “It’s time for me to move to another level. I am acting in a Punjabi play with Divya Dutta. We’ll take the play all over the world beginning with Canada.I want to direct plays,” the actor suggests.

The making of the film is yet to be organised and with Puri busy witha Punjabi play, nothing about the making of the film will be revealed any time soon. However it is certain, that with all the support around him, and with so much experience within the film industry,he will have no problem in making a great film.
