Olympian’s daughter unhappy with Reema Kagti

Biopics are mostly always dealt with a lot of care, which is why it comes as a surprise of reports suggesting Reema Kagti hasn’t spoken to the family of Olympian hockey player Balbir Singh, whom her next film ‘Gold’ is about.

The film will see Akshay Kumar playing the hockey stay who played a pivotal part in India’s Gold medal in the 1984 Olympic games. Mid-Day reported Singh’s daughter Sushbir Kaur stating, “The media has reported that ‘Gold’ is based on my father’s life since he was the star of the Olympics show. But, we aren’t sure about the subject and how much of it will delve into my father’s struggle. The 1948 Olympics revolves around many key players.”

“The tiranga was hoisted on foreign shores and my father was an important part of it. He was instrumental in getting the gold and we are his immediate family. Ideally, we should be consulted on this [film. As of now, there is no clarity on the film,” she went on to add.

Understanding the importance of making such a film however, Kaur explained, “In 2012, my father was chosen as one of the 16 iconic Olympians of all times. His life’s story makes for a solid biopic and his trajectory of scaling such great heights despite humble beginnings will inspire the youth.”

Despite not being happy with the lack of involvement she’s been able to have, Kaur did express that she is happy with Kumar representing her father. “Akshay is fantastic and as fit as my father was when we were growing up.”

The film is set to hit the big screens in 2018.
