Ofcom raps Panjab Broadcasting Channel for commercial references
Ofcom has rapped Panjab Broadcasting Channel (PBC) for commercial references during programming.
Ofcom received a complaint that the breakfast show ‘PBC Good Morning’, in which it promoted an electric vehicle business. The broadcaster in its response stated the primary purpose of the programme was to “inform viewers about electric vehicles and the market for them in general in the UK”, while a secondary aim was to share the career experience of a Sikh guest in the transport industry.
It further added that it was “aware of the potential issues that might arise under Rules 9.4 and 9.5 of the Code”.

Ofcom considered that the prominence of the references to the electric vehicle company and its products in this programme went beyond what was editorially justified. Ofcom found the broadcaster in breach of Rules 9.4 and 9.5 of the Code.
