Ofcom raps 15 stations for late payments or non-payments of licence fees

Ofcom has identified 15 radio stations that have breached regulations due to late payments or non-payments of licence fees. This failure to comply with financial reporting requirements hinders Ofcom’s ability to perform its regulatory duties effectively.

Submitting a finance report is crucial for licensees, as it allows Ofcom to verify compliance with funding-related licence requirements. The absence of these reports constitutes a significant and fundamental breach of community radio licences. Without the necessary financial information, Ofcom’s capacity to oversee and regulate the sector is compromised.

Ofcom emphasised the importance of financial transparency, stating, “It is of fundamental importance that Ofcom can verify that a licensee is complying with its licence requirements relating to funding. We therefore require licensees to submit a finance report setting out how they have met their licence obligations. The finance reports from stations also inform Ofcom’s own understanding of the community radio sector, and financial information about the sector features in the Communications Market Report.”

Stations such as Air FM, Awaaz FM, Bute Island Radio, EAVA FM, Fiesta FM, Juice Radio, Liverpool Community Radio, Radio2Funky, and Skyline Gold 102.5 were reported for late submissions. Meanwhile, 1BTN, Halton Community Radio, Juice FM Belfast, KCC Live, Revival FM, and Ujima Radio have yet to file their reports.
