Ofcom clears complaint against 92 News UK

Ofcom has confirmed that it will not be taking any action against Pakistani news broadcaster, 92 News after it received a complaint for a show in January 2019.

A complaint was regitsered by Arif Naqvi, made on his behalf by Faaris Naqvi, about the show ‘Breaking Views with Malick’. The programme included a brief discussion about Arif regarding his background, his position as an advisor to the government in Pakistan and his relationship with the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan.

Ofcom found that material facts were not presented, disregarded or omitted in the programme in a way that was unfair to Arif. Nor did Ofcom consider, in the particular circumstances of this case, that it was necessary for the broadcaster to have provided Arif for an appropriate and timely opportunity to respond in order to avoid unfairness to him.
