Noel & Madhavan sign Deal Or No Deal

It’s quite a coincidence that one show format has been announced in their own ways in two different countries.

The programme called Deal Or No Deal will air on UK’s Channel 4 and the Indian version of it Deal Ya No Deal will air on Sony Entertainment Television Asia network worldwide.

Deal Or No Deal will be fronted by Noel Edmonds and Deal Ya No Deal will be hosted by film actor R Madhavan in which 22 contestants pit their wits against ‘the Dealer’ in an attempt to win a potential ?250,000 (1 crore for Indian version) prize hidden within one of 22 boxes.

Deal or No Deal – which has already proved a success in 40 countries worldwide – begins with 22 sealed boxes, each containing a different amount of money.. In each episode, one of the 22 players is picked to play for the big prize. The player must then decide which of the 22 boxes he or she wishes to play the game with. Since the boxes are loaded and sealed by an independent auditor, literally no one will know how much money each box contains and whether the player has a fortune or a few pennies inside his/her box.

During the game, the player must gradually open the other boxes, revealing the different amounts of money contained inside. These amounts are then eliminated from a game board displayed on a large game board in the studio, making it increasingly clear whether the player’s box is likely to have a large sum of money, or very little sealed inside it.

However, throughout the programme, an unseen opponent called ‘the Dealer’ tempts the player with offers of cash to buy back their box in an attempt to stop them chasing a fortune.

The Dealer’ is equally in the dark about the true amount the player has in his/her sealed box and so must make their offer based purely on probabilities and psychology.

Deal or No Deal is a game of luck, instinct and guts. Every player has the chance to win some money, no matter who or what he or she knows because in Deal or No Deal, it is the decisions, not the questions that get increasingly difficult.

Noel Edmonds makes his comeback as a gameshow host after five years and R Madhavan will be seen on the Sony show in November after his mediocre Brit Asian flick Ramji Londonwaley.
