What would have been his 80th birthday celebration, was a commemoration of how great of an actor Amrish Puri was. With fans and co-stars sending messages in his memory, Shekhar Kapur answered one question that has been on everyone’s mind for a very long time.

Acclaimed for one of his most memorable lines “Mogambo, khush hua!” as the villian of all villains-Mogambo, Hindustan Times reportsKapur tweeting how there cannot be a ‘Mr India’ (1978) sequel without Puri, “Amrish Puri left an indelible mark on Indian cinema. Can’t think of Mr India 2 without him. We miss him.”

At the age of 73, Puri passed away on 12 January 2005, caused by a cerebral hemorrhage. Over his 44-year career, Puri had created connections with audiences in some of his most profound roles, as Mona Ram in ‘Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom’ (1984), Thakur Durjan Singh in ‘Karan Arjun’ (1995), Chaudhry Baldev Singh in ‘Diwale Dulhania Le Jayenga’ (1995) and Raja Saab in ‘Koyla’ (1997) just to name a few.

Even after 6-years since his death, Puri is still highly remembered and respected as one of India’s greatest actors, nationally and internationally, which proves Amrish Puri will never be a name forgotten.
