Ninjeri Pandit named Principal Private Secretary at Downing Street
Ninjeri Pandit has been appointed as Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer’s Principal Private Secretary, following a reshuffle prompted by the departure of Sue Gray as Chief of Staff.
Pandit, previously an executive with NHS Digital, has joined No. 10 to focus on health policy. She also takes on the role of director of the policy unit, a pivotal civil service position.
Dominic Cummings once praised Pandit in a blog, describing her as one of the “brilliant women around the table” who would have performed the role of Prime Minister “10 times better” than Boris Johnson.

Pandit is only the second woman to hold the position, following Elizabeth Perelman, who worked with former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
