Nihal to front Radio 1 weekend breakfast show
BBC Radio 1 has today announced several programming changes with Nihal lined-up to front the station’s weekend breakfast show.
Nihal, who currently hosts the BBC Asian Network’s ‘Phone-In’ show will take over the coveted slot from Fearne and Reggie. The latter two will present ‘Radio 1’s Chart Show’.
Nihal said: “Oh my gosh! I’m still so hyped up by this news that when I eventually calm down I’ll be able to verbalise how humbled and excited I am.”
Andy Parfitt, Controller, Radio 1, 1Xtra and Teens, said: “It’s important that we keep up the pace of change and innovation both on air and online.
This simplifies and strengthens Radio 1 and is an important step in providing programmes focused on the under-18 audience.
The new Radio 1 schedule, coupled with the recently announced changes for 1Xtra, really give us the chance of turbo-charging the BBC’s performance with young audiences over the coming years.”
Incidentally, Nihal had his first mainstream radio break with Radio 1 on the station’s first Brit-Asian music show with fellow DJ Bobby Friction. The duo still present the programme on Tuesday midnights.
