‘Newton’ filmmakers slammed with court summons

It was one of 2017’s most successful films, marking Bollywood’s entry at the Oscars. So it came to a huge surprise that the makers of the Rajkummar Rao starrer ‘Newton’ have been slammed with court summons by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

According to Deccan Chronicle, a criminal and civil defamation complaint has been given by the CRPF’s sub inspector Tamal Sanyal, accusing the makers of the film of portraying the CRPF negatively, stating that there are scenes on the film that reflect false doings of the force, giving the organisation a bad name.

Director-producer Manish Mundra and Drishyam Films production company CEO Shiladitya Bora have been required to make a public apology and compensate the CRPF by the complaint.

There has been news that the court has ordered a pre-summoning hearing to hear evidence against the film and its makers, on 19 July.
