One of the most influential Asian businesswomen in the country has added to her growing list of accolades after she was honoured by one of Birmingham’s top universities.

Chairperson of the Institute of Asian Businesses (IAB), Gurjeet Kaur Bains, has been offered an Honourary Literary degree by Aston University.

Gurjeet is currently the editor for two of the country’s most successfully run national newspapers The Sikh Times and Eastern Voice.

She is also a board member of Birmingham Divercity and one of the 50 ambassadors for the 2012 olympics.

Gurjeet said: “I was genuinely surprised to hear about the award, but I۪m hugely honoured.

“I hope to continue contributing to the community and believe this is recognition of the hard work and endeavour which has become synonymous with the Asian community which makes this award even more special.”

The honour will be conferred to Gurjeet later this year.
