News18 India to move on Sky EPG; adds new shows

Network18’s popular news service, News18 India is moving on the Sky Digital EPG and has confirmed to BizAsia that it will be adding new language shows too.

From Tuesday 3rd March, News18 India will move to the ‘International’ category of the Sky EPG with a new channel number. Since its launch in the UK, News18 India was available in the ‘News’ category but away from other Asian channels that sit in the 700 and 800 EPG band. However, from this week, News18 India will move from 573 to 848.

As well as the EPG relocation, News18 India will introduce language news and current affairs show from its sister regional channels, ETV Network. It is expected that News18 India will roll out news bulletins from ETV Urdu, Gujarati and Bangla – a first for a news channel in the UK. Currently, News18 India focuses on English bulletins from CNN-IBN and Hindi shows from IBN7.

The broadcaster is hoping that with the channel move on Sky Digital, it will be much more accessible, which previously has been lost amongst English news channels. NDTV 24×7 is now the only South Asian news channel that remains in the ‘News’ category.
