After 16 years of working together, News Corporation has completed its buyout of ESPN Star Sports from Walt Disney.
In June this year, News Corp had announced it was to acquire ESPN’s 50 per cent stake in ESPN Star Sports to become the sole owner of the sports network. ESPN Star Sport has now become a wholly owned subsidiary of News Corp.
The company confirmed, “News Corporation and ESPN today announced that News Corporation, through a wholly-owned subsidiary, completed its acquisition of ESPN’s partnership interest in ESPN STAR Sports (ESS) pursuant to their agreement announced on 6 June 2012.”
With this, ESPN will exit the Asian broadcasting market, however its digital formats ESPNcricinfo, ESPNFC, ESPNscrum and mobileESPN will continue in the territory.
