News channels & IPL resolve differences

Indian news channels will be able to broadcast footage from the Indian Premier League, in a deal confirmed hours before the inauguration of the third series.

Last month, BizAsia.co.uk revealed how news channels could boycott the IPL due to differences between the IPL and the National News Broadcasters Association (NBA), representing 34 news channels.

Broadcasters were protesting against “arbitrary” guidelines and certain contentious clauses regarding footage of the Twenty20 event.

Lalit Modi, the IPL commissioner, confirmed the deal on his Twitter feed this evening. He said, “NBA issue resolved. Both us moved forward to ensure all fans don۪t miss the IPL. My sincere thanks to the NBA members for making it happen. News broadcasters will carry IPL news.”

Modi did not specify the details of the new agreement and whether any conditions between the two parties had changed.
