New Sikh religious channel set for launch in UK in January

A dedicated Sikh religious channel is all set for launch in January, BizAsia can reveal.

Details of Akaal TV are being kept underwraps due to competition from the existing two Sikh television services including Sikh Channel and Sangat TV – both on the Sky Digital platform.

Akaal TV plans to broadcast Sikh religious and documentaries, with live Akhand Paths from various Gurdwaras in the UK. The channel is based in Birmingham.

Akaal TV has no link with Sikh TV. Sikh TV went off-air in August last year, months after the channel’s CEO Gagandip Singh was murdered, with his body found in the boot of a car which had been set alight in what is understood to be revenge for his attempts to seduce a woman.

Akaal TV is rumoured to launch in January on Sky Digital.
