New series of Indian Cricket League on course

With the Indian Premier League set to commence this weekend, ZEE Network has gone on to confirm that Season 3 of its own Indian Cricket League (ICL) is on course to start this Winter.

It plans to launch ICL Season-3 with its ‘October-November 2009’-Winter edition of the ICL 20s Indian Championship, preceded by the ICL 20-20 Domestic Tournament and conditioning camp for its players.

Speaking on the development Subhash Chandra, Chairman, Essel Group stated, “ICL has emerged as a true global sports brand. We have successfully conducted seven tournaments through our pioneering league. Every edition has seen new innovations, additional sports facilities and a larger talent base to entertain the sports consumer and ICL Season-3 will be no different. We are utilizing the off-season period to further enhance the features of the sports product, to deliver a more vibrant and entertaining brand of cricket for the sports fans of the country. We are hopeful to receive official recognition at the ICC Executive Board meeting scheduled for 17th April and 18th in Dubai; failing which we will pursue legal options.”

The ICL World Series was cancelled in March this year due to the economic crisis and unavailability of the Lahore Badshahs (Pakistani players).
