Netflix strengthens presence in India

Netflix is combating rivals Hotstar and Amazon Prime in India by partnering up with Airtel, Vodafone and Videocon.

Netflix is investing big money in its local content in India and thus the three leading companies will strengthen its position in the market. Its deal with Airtel and Videocon is for set top boxes, while its Vodafone tie-up is for payment integration. It is also said to be in talks with other major companies.

At a press conference in Delhi, Netflix Co-founder and CEO Reed Hastings said, “India is one of the most important and we are delighted to be teaming up with three of India’s leading companies. The partnerships with Airtel and Videocon d2h is for set top boxes while the Vodafone partnership is for payment integration.”

Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment signed a deal with Netflix last December, giving access to a large number of Shah Rukh Khan movies and shows.
