Netflix launching new BBFC age rating on all content
Netflix will become the first digital platform to launch British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) ratings on all of its content including films and shows.
The new digital symbols will be implemented on Thursday 31st October. The new BBFC age ratings will replace Netflix’s own maturity signage. Like current films, BBFC’s age ratings will consist of U, PG, 12/12A, 15 or 18.
BBFC chief executive David Austin said, “As the landscape of viewing content changes, so do we. We’re proud to be launching digital symbols for a digital audience, to help them choose content well.”
The BBFC is also publishing new user guidelines for all video on demand platforms and has released a short animation explaining the new rating symbols across UK cinemas.
