Neil Nitin Mukesh set to play Sanjay Gandhi in Bhandarkar’s next

Neil Nitin Mukesh

Madhur Bhandarkar is set to start his new project with Neil Nitin Mukesh, titled ‘Indu Sarkar’.  This will be based on the Emergency of 1975 that Indira Gandhi raised as Prime Minister.  This will also bring Mukesh back on the big screen playing Sanjay Gandhi, the Prime Minister’s son.

According to Times of India, Mukesh said, “It’s great to team up with Madhur once again after Jail (2009). The role is extremely challenging.”

The film will have references to real life events, and will be based on the life of a poetess played by Kirti Kulhari, who previously starred in ‘Pink’ (2016).

Mukesh and Bhandarkar are both researching for the film, along with meeting journalists and activists.  The filmmaker commented, “It’s a fictionalised tale inspired by events that unfolded between 1975 and 1977.”

The project will begin in December and the production team will be creating Delhi.
