‘Neerja’ makers legal bother continues

Producers of ‘Neerja’ (2016) have recently been in the news regarding a legal case made against them for criminal conspiracy. Recent developments on this particular case is that the Punjab and Haryana High Court has now put them on notice.

Reported in Times Of India, Aneesh and Akhil Bhanot, brothers of the late Neerja Bhanot had signed an agreement with the film makers that they would receive 10% of the film’s profit. However, this didn’t quite happen. The film made Rs. 125 crore but the family only received a sum of Rs. 7.5 lakh.

The money received by the family was then going to be donated to the Neerja trust to help other families. Apparently the Bhanot family were offered an undisclosed amount, but they refused.

Co-producers Fox Star Studios have distanced themselves from the case, saying they do not have any “contractual obligations towards the family”.

The High Court has sought response by 11th August.
