NDTV to downsize workforce by a quarter

NDTV has confirmed that it will be reducing its workforce by 25% to improve its profitability.

In a release submitted to the Bombay Stock Exchange, NDTV said, “The strategy we are adopting calls for a far leaner operation, which will feed only our core business: our English and Hindi news channels, and NDTV Convergence and its digital teams that run our news and other apps and websites. “Given our reprioritisation, our workforce has to be altered too. Over the next month, we are considering reduction of the workforce by up to 25 per cent.”

Part of the drive to cut down its workforce is a result of digital technology such as mobile phones becoming most efficient in delivering breaking news to viewers.
