It’s no secret that Nawazuddin Siddiqui was the talk of the town during this year’s Cannes Film Festival, after the screening of his forthcoming film ‘Raman Raghav 2.0’ helmed by Anurag Kashyap. So much so that he even earned himself a special name from it.

Having attended the prestigious film festival before, Siddiqui spoke toHindustan Times about his experience this year. “This time [at Cannes], a lot of people called me the King of Cannes۪ in jest. I guess I do have a special equation with the festival,” he was reported expressing.

Talking about his expectation of how he thought the film would be received by audiences, Siddiqui explained, “I won۪t say that I wasn۪t expecting a good response, as I have delivered a very honest performance in the film. I knew that it wouldn۪t go unnoticed. But the way the French media responded was completely unexpected. The best part was that the audience gave it a standing ovation that lasted for about 15-20 minutes. It was sheer madness.”

Siddiqui is amongst the few actor’s who has journeyed across the pond, and worked on some very well known international projects as well. Talking about working on other film industries, the actor went on to say, “I never sit, and think, Now I will do international films.۝ If I ever do international movies, I will have to go through the process of discovering the character inside me. I am doing the same here. So, why should I kill myself to do an international film? Discovering the new dimensions of the characters offered to me is important, as every film comes with a new challenge.”

With the likes of Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone working in Hollywood, there is still much debate as to whether it’s all worth it. According to Siddiqui it all depends on how you get there, as he explained, “Doing international films is overrated; it is nothing more than a status symbol. People have done international films in the past as well. If you are getting work from another industry due to your talent, that۪s great. But to get work there, if you have to hire an agent, publicise your work, and show them how good an actor you are, then it۪s not worth it.”

‘Raman Raghav 2.0’ is set to hit the silver screen on 24th June.
