Nawazuddin Siddiqui is impressed with Shah Rukh Khan for making the decision to play a negative role in their current film ‘Raees’ (2017) which released on Friday.

Reported in the Times Of India, Khan plays a Gujarati bootlegger and Siddiqui who plays a police officer, says he’s glad that Khan did something outside of his comfort zone. “What I admire in Shah Rukh the most is that he being a superstar has come out of his comfort zone and has done a dark film like this, which is a rare thing. People (actors) often play safe games (referring to roles and films). Shah Rukh has the daring to do a negative role, it’s a big thing. I admire this quality in him.”

“He is very humble, sensitive and a very understanding person. His thoughts inspire me. It’s a big compliment for me when he praises my work. He is an experienced actor, and an actor of his stature praising me is a big compliment for me,” Siddiqui added.

The run up to the release of the film was quite intense as ‘Raees’ was going head-to-head to the Hrithik Roshan thriller ‘Kaabil’, Siddiqui who was asked if he was feeling confident about the film doing well said,  “I was confident about the film. Shah Rukh sahab does have a huge fan following not only in India but globally as well.”…”But overall the film has also got good response because of the story, dialogues. I did not expect people to applaud and whistle. The audience’s appreciation is what matters the most to me. It’s a mass entertainer film, but with a great story.”

‘Raees’ (2017) in it’s first five days managed to rake in an incredible Rs 93.24 crore, whereas ‘Kaabil’ (2017) has made Rs 67.46 crore so far. But Siddiqui had no doubts on the films success.
