National Mela spectacular returns in November

Clarion Events, the UK?s largest independent exhibition organiser has today announced a new addition to its portfolio – The National Mela.

The Mela is being dubbed as the mega Asian experience and the UK?s largest indoor culture and lifestyle event. The National Mela will take place across 25,000sqm of dedicated space at the NEC in Birmingham from 18th to 20th November 2005.

Now in its fourth year, the event has attracted over 30,000 visitors each year and will showcase the very best of Asian culture, giving visitors from all walks of life the chance to experience the colours, aromas, sounds and tastes of the Sub-continent.

By providing interactive content, wonderful shopping, first class celebrities, culturally balanced entertainment, access to information and uniting the community at large, The National Mela offers unique sales and marketing opportunities to exhibitors across six core consumer zones:

? Careers, Commerce & Education
? Lifestyle, Music & Travel
? Sport & Leisure
? Weddings & Honeymoons
? Fashion, Beauty & Health
? Food, Cookery & Kitchen

The announcement comes alongside key changes in the infrastructure of the event, with Clarion now taking over the financial and operational reins of The National Mela. Prior to Clarion, Bigga Events, the ZEE Network and Carlton TV were in charge of the Mela.

With over 25 years of organising expertise, Clarion Events currently runs 41 events across twelve markets, including the Baby Show, Destinations: The Holiday & Travel Show and The Daily Telegraph House & Garden Show. Clarion Events brings operational resource, strong exhibition industry relationships and sales capability to The National Mela.

Lee Masters, Portfolio Director of Clarion Events and the man behind the original BBC Mega Mela back in 1998 says of the event: ?There has been a growing interest in the UK?s South Asian community, which represents 4% of the UK?s total population. It is a growing community and is known to be economically active and highly aspirational. With the continued growth in ethnic media, an exhibition and live event is a natural vehicle to target these communities. Clarion is always looking for new and innovative events to include within its portfolio and The National Mela is one we have great confidence in.

He adds: ?Our first major initiative is to double the size of the show ? we are now taking three halls at the National Exhibition Centre compared to one in 2004. New show innovations and celebrity guests will be confirmed in the coming months ? watch this space!?

The National Mela will take place at the NEC, Birmingham on Friday 18th, Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th November 2005.
