Narendra Modi invites filmmakers to shoot in Jammu & Kashmir

PM Narendra Modi has sanctioned filming in Jammu and Kashmir, for film industries, including Bollywood, Telugu, and Tamil.

This sanction has followed directly as a result of the revocation of Article 370, which had granted autonomy to Jammu and Kashmir to create their own constitution. However it is now no longer the case as the states are back under the constitutional control of India. This has opened up the opportunity for film industries in India to once again film in the scenic Kashmir, where many of the old movies were shot.

Modi has reasoned that this change in law will cultivate new employment opportunities to the Kashmiri youth, and will also boost the value of Jammu and Kashmir as tourist destinations. None of this is possible, however, without the strong support and investment of giant film industries like Bollywood into the state, which would not only be seen in the form of filming, but also new infrastructure like cinemas.
