NaMo TV banned from airing political content during India elections

The Bharatiya Janata Party pro channel, NaMo TV has been banned from airing political content during the India elections by the Election Commission.

In a letter issued to the Delhi chief electoral officer, the commission said that all recorded programmes and political content aired on the channel must be pre-certified by its committee. It also added that any political content can only be permitted strictly in accordance with the commission’s instructions.

The letter read, “As NaMo TV/Content TV is sponsored by a political party, all recorded programmes of political contents displayed on the channel/platform would be covered under the purview of the Commission’s Order…”

It added, “Any political publicity materials/contents, being displayed on electronic media without the requisite certification from competent authority (MCMC in this case) should be removed immediately and any political content shall only be permitted strictly in accordance with the ECI instructions in this regard.”

The channel had come under fire by rival political parties when it cropped up on satellite platforms last month.
