Film director Nagesh Kukunoor brings out the best in child artistes by treating them like professional adults. After receiving an overwhelming response for ‘Rockford'(1996), Kukonoor has scheduled the release of his next venture which is based on the lives of two children. The movie , titled ‘Dhanak’, will address the influence of Indian celebrities on the lives of their fans.

According toTimes of India, the director sharedwith a leading daily, “I jokingly said after ‘Rockford’ that I will not do another film with children but after many years I broke the promise. To work with kid actors is not something I have a problem with, as I make sure I treat them as adults. I never treat them as kids. I explain the situation as it is. Some of these kids have worked before in advertisement or short films. They are conditioned to do really bad acting. They are mollycoddled and babied. They are treated as amateur artist. That de-training takes a bit of time. Once that gets done we were off and running.”

It is suggested that no celebrities are revered so much as they are in India to which Kukunoor responds, “I wanted to explore this mythology in a fun and endearing way which also made sense thematically.”

‘Dhanak’ which was initially screened at the Berlin Film Festival last year, is scheduled to release in cinemas on 10th June.
