Mystery surrounds ZEE Bollywood UK licence

A new TV licence issued by Ofcom for ZEE Network has sparked speculation over the broadcaster’s plans to launch a new channel in the UK/Europe market.

The name of the service has appeared as ‘ZEE Bollywood’ with no other information available. What’s interesting is that if ZEE Network is planning to launch a channel by this name, how it will differentiate its content to Bollywood movie channel, ZEE Cinema and the heavy Bollywood influenced, Zing. The network also does not have a channel by the name of ‘ZEE Bollywood’ in India but neither did it have when it launched Lamhe solely in the UK.

With ZEE News’ EPG slot on Sky Digital sitting as a placeholder, only time will tell what new ZEE service will take its position – ZEE Bollywood or the strongly rumoured Pakistani entertainment channel ZEE Zindagi. Or maybe something totally different.
