Murdoch’s Fox takeover of Sky to be investigated by competition authority

The Secretary of State, Karen Bradley has announced a decision on 21st Century Fox/Sky proposed merger.

She is minded to refer the takeover by 21st Century Fox to the Competition and Markets Authority on their commitment to broadcasting standards and media plurality. This will result in another six-month delay in the takeover process, which will now see the Murdochs being investigated on their power in the media and broadcast quality not just in the UK but also USA.

Ofcom said its duty was to be satisfied that all licensees are fit and proper is ongoing, and Ofcom continues to monitor and assess all relevant developments.
