‘Mr India’ to get 3D revival

Not longsince BizAsia reported that 1994’s classic ‘Andaz Apna Apna’ may be going 3D comes the official announcementthat Shekhar Kapur’s’Mr India’ (1987) is all set to get the same treatment. Although the news comes much before producer, Boney Kapoor, would have hoped, it is thought that the 3D version will be released before the sequel.

According to the Hindustan Times, Kapoor commented, “Mr India was ahead of its time. Some of the sequences aren۪t easy to attempt even today.” The film starred Sridevi and Anil Kapoor and the characters are remembered and enjoyed even today.

Kapoor went on to justify his decision for the remake, “The invisible man, Hanuman punching the villain, Mr India whipping a hunter and the late Amrish Puri as the legendary Mogambo are some things that will look excellent in 3D. Then there are songs like Hawa hawaai_ Kaante nahi kat te_ that are popular even today”. Audiences who would have experienced the hype that surrounded the film when it originally released may also recall the soundtrack’s popularity.

It seems Bollywood has very much caught the 3D bug of late. Whether such classics can be appreciated fully in this form is yet to be seen.

‘Mr India’3Dshould be ready in 2014.
