More classic Amitabh Bachchan movies in remakes?

More remakes on the way?

When the late Prakash Mehra sons, Amit, Sumit and Punit, approached Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar for their blessings in producing a remake of the blockbuster hit Zanjeer۪ (1972), they were not expecting the two writers of the original film to object to the production. Though still going ahead with the film, it has been reported that thetrio are also planning to remake more of their father۪s legendary films such as’Muqaddar Ka Sikandar’ (1978), ‘Namak Halal’ (1982), ‘Lawaaris’ ( 1981) and ‘Sharaabi’ (1984).

The three, who own all rights to their father’s productions, are planning to start on the remake of Muqaddar ka Sikandar۪ after they finish with ‘Zanjeer’. Times of Indiaquoted Amit whoexplained What I love about Muqaddar Ka Sikandar is that every protagonist in the film, including Amjad Khan Saab, is a passionate lover. The remake would have to be cast very carefully. We don’t have too many actors today who can pull off the role of intense lovers.”

It has also been reportedAmit, who will be directing the film,is thinking of casting Abhishek Bachchan for the lead roleof Sikandar whohis father, Amitabh Bachchan, played in the original film. Like ‘Zanjeer’, the Mehras are worried that Vijay Kaul, the writer of the 1978 film, will want the rights over the remake.

The remake of ‘Zanjeer’ was not accepted too well byAkhtar and Khan. What with talks of more remakes, the Mehra camp may just need to be prepared for a further backlash.
