Mira Nair on not approaching Bollywood actors for crossover projects

Filmmaker Mira Nair, whose web series ‘A Suitable Boy’ has released on Netflix, spilled the beans on not approaching Bollywood actors to work with her across the ocean.

In a recent chat with Zoom TV , Nair said, “Irrfan was always brave in terms of never being afraid to work with me across the ocean. Many many actors I have tried to work with the stars of the time in Bollywood, they were initially not trusting themselves in the international zone. They were perfectly comfortable in the zone at home, where they were the Gods. Really like time ago, while making Monsoon Wedding, I sort of stopped going there. I remember seeing Shefali Jha and I just cast her on the telephone and she came right on board. These are great actors.”

She also said, “But now time has changed, because the actors here will have smelled the horizons beyond and I think that the fear and habit that keep them in the Bollywood zone will not make them, this time stay there.”

‘A Suitable Boy’ starring Ishaan Khatter and Tabu, along with many other actors, was exclusive to the BBC in August.
