Mehak Manwani & Chittaranjan Tripathy in Voot’s upcoming series ‘Jholachhap’

Viacom18’s leading video-on-demand streaming service, Voot is geared up to set the tone for social drama web series in India with the announcement of its upcoming Original – ‘Jholachhap’. Both created and directed by Jyotiprakash, Jholachhap aims to highlight the healthcare crisis in rural India with an enthralling story of a young doctor, whose life takes an unexpected turn after she gets posted to a village full of quacks. Spanning six episodes, the riveting social drama series is slated to premiere exclusively on Voot, for free, soon!

Produced by JP Pictures and Madanlal Azad, Jholachhap marks the digital debut of Mehak Manwani and Mushtaq Khan, who play the lead roles in this series alongside Chittaran Jantripathy. In addition to them, this Voot Original also features Prabhakar Sharma, Shalini Mishra, Lovekush Kundu, Madanlal Azad, Jaspal Kaur and Chandan Mehta in supporting roles.

Set against the backdrop of rural India, this Jyotiprakash directorial follows Dr Neha Rastogi (played by Mehak Manwani), who gets posted to an eccentric village to not only strengthen its healthcare system but also raise awareness among the villagers about the importance of healthcare. However, her momentous journey turns topsy-turvy when village quacks Jitender Tyagi (played by Chittaranjan Tripathy) and Shyam Sunder (played by Mushtaq Khan) plot against her for their selfish motives.

Mehak Manwani shared, “I feel, raising awareness about enhancing the healthcare system in rural parts of India has become the need of the hour, especially in the current testing times. With Jholachhap, we aim to do exactly that, but in an entertaining way! It’s an interesting story of a highly ambitious doctor who aims to bring about a change in the system with her service and the evils of society who attempt to plot obstacles at each stage of her journey.”

Actor Chittaranjan Tripathy added, “As Jitender, I played the antagonist in Jholachhap whose prime objective is to ensure that Dr Neha gets banished from the village in order to suffice his personal gains. This web series is a pure entertainer that includes comedy and drama, complemented with an underlying social message. I thoroughly enjoyed myself working with the entire star cast of the series, and I’m super pumped for the exclusive release of Jholachhap on Voot!”
