Meera Syal honoured with CBE in New Years list

British Asian entertainment icon, Meera Syal has been recognised with a CBE in the New Year Honours list.

Syal, known for her vast range of work in drama and writing, shot to fame with comedy stints in ‘Goodness Gracious Me’ and ‘The Kumars At No.42’.

The 53-year old, witnessed success with her first book ‘Anita And Me’, which was later adapated for the big screen. She also saw success with her second book ‘Life Isn’t All Ha Ha Hee Hee’. She also helped with the scripting of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical ‘Bombay Dreams’.

Syal is married to fellow actor-comedian, Sanjeev Bhaskar.
