Media Hive nominated at the CIPR Excellence Awards 2021

Specialist PR and marketing agency Media Hive has been recognised by the prestigious Chartered Institute of PR (CIPR) at their annual gala event. Media Hive has been nominated at the CIPR Excellence Awards 2021 for Best Covid Response after a year of tireless work in supporting comms and messaging to ethnic minority communities during the pandemic. The annual awards is one of the most prestigious nights in the PR industry calendar and this year’s virtual event taking place on 17th June will be hosted by BBC One and BBC Radio 2 presenter Jason Mohammad.

Media Hive are being recognised for their work around Covid-19, working with ethnic communities at a time when minority groups were being disproportionately impacted by the pandemic and when community uptake of the vaccine was worryingly low. Media Hive’s #takethevaccine campaign is being recognised in the Best Covid Response category. The campaign had several media highlights including front page stories in The Guardian and The Sun newspapers, huge editorial coverage across the BBC including flagship programmes such as BBC Breakfast and The One Show, and across BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Sky News outputs. The campaign also marked a first in British broadcasting history with a simultaneous broadcast on ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and over 10 Sky TV channels at the same time on 18th February, at the height of national concerns around vaccine hesitancy in ethnic communities. It was also supported heavily by several ethnic community media outlets as well.

The campaign centred around a video scripted by and co-produced with broadcaster and actor Adil Ray OBE and featured several Asian and Black celebrities sharing culturally relevant messaging, advice and guidance around the vaccine in order to encourage more people from ethnic communities to feel comfortable about getting vaccinated. The video featured prominent names such as Romesh Ranganathan, Meera Syal, Sanjeev Bhaskar, David Olusoga, Denise Lewis, Beverley Knight, Moeen Ali, Boman Irani, Nina Wadia, Asim Chaudhry, Shola Mos-Shogbamimu, Alex Beresford, Ranvir Singh and more.

Samir Ahmed, Managing Director, Media Hive said: “I am delighted that our work has been recognised by the CIPR Excellence Awards. The CIPR is one of the most credible industry bodies in the PR industry, committed to professional PR standards and supporting careers, learning and understanding in the PR industry. Our specialist work with ethnic communities around Covid-19 this year has been very rewarding for the whole team, and given us greater purpose as an agency in supporting all of our clients to craft and execute PR and marketing strategies which are more diverse, inclusive and wholly representative of all communities. In what has been a terribly difficult time for all communities during the pandemic it is nice that our tireless work in creating more media coverage and awareness for ethnic minority communities is being recognised by the industry.”

Media Hive’s work around Covid-19 continues at the moment, having launched two major fundraising appeals this week for the British Asian Trust and the British Red Cross respectively, to support both charity’s aid efforts in India during a devastating new wave of the pandemic.

Alongside it’s work around Covid-19, the agency has continued working with clients in the Arts, Entertainment and Lifestyle sector with recent projects including book launches by Priyanka Chopra Jonas (Penguin Books), Black Lives Matter campaigner Patrick Hutchinson (Harper Collins) and influencer Jay Shetty (Harper Collins) as well as hosting a recent media interaction with Oscar nominated Riz Ahmed, the release of Disney’s Mulan, and launching the upcoming ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’ (Studio Canal), a new film by Jemima Khan and Shekhar Kapur.

Media Hive picked up the ‘Media Agency of the Year’ award at the last Asian Media Awards in 2019 after a year which included projects like the release of Disney’s Aladdin, the Cricket World Cup, Sky Cinema’s Hotel Mumbai starring Dev Patel, the Asian Awards, the launch of Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Virat Kohli’s wax statues at Madame Tussauds, and the annual publication of the Asian Rich List and Asian Power List (AMG).
