MAX to premiere Amitabh Bachchan festival

Sony Entertainment Television Asia’s movies and events channel MAX is all set to run a month-long movie festival featuring Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan.

The festival is called ‘Ab Tak Bachchan’ and will run throughout May. MAX is hoping viewers stick with the channel after its successful broadcast of the Cricket World Cup in India.

Even though MAX has already telecast many Amitabh Bachchan movies in the past, these will now be shown on a daily basis as a part of the season – a first for the channel. Movie festivals on MAX have previously lasted for a week or two. ‘Deewar’, ‘Don’, ‘Silsila’, ‘Agneepath’, ‘Laawaris’ and ‘Muqaddar Ka Sikandar’.

In India, the films will air Monday to Friday at 20:00, which will also mark a change to the start time of its primetime movie slot. Up until now primetime movies on the channel have aired at 21:00.

It is not yet known if the time change will affect UK viewers.

According to MAX marketing head T Gangadhar, the channel has up to 49 Amitabh Bachchan movies in its library.
