MATV to revamp with two new channel strands

MATV is broadening its programming spectrum with the launch of two exciting new channel strands later this month.

Currently the Leicester based channel MATV is available round the clock with a mixture of local shows, dramas and movies. Over the next few weeks, the channel will be breaking down its schedule into three strands.

As well as MATV, the channel will also broadcast programmes from two Indian channels – Sanskar TV and Music India. Sanskar TV is known for its devotional, spiritual and yoga programming. There will be shows from Sri Ravi Shankar who is known worldwide for his art of living ideology.

Music India, as the name suggests will play music from India, be it the latest Bollywood and Indi-pop. The channel launched in India six months ago has been performing well. Programmes from Music India will be added to the MATV schedule next month. An MATV spokesman also confirmed to BizAsia.co.uk about plans to launch Music India as a standalone channel as soon as an EPG space becomes available on Sky Digital.

The new schedule is expected to go live from Thursday 25th January 2007 as follows:

05:30 – 18:00 Sanskar TV (live beam from India)
18:00 – 00:00 MATV (local programming)
00:00 – 05:30 Music India (from February/March)

With the overhaul in programming, MATV executives reassured viewers that the channel will remain free-to-air on Sky Digital. The new look of MATV will also simulcast on channel six in Leicester. Today’s announcement comes days after several changes were made at the top in management. The business partners at MATV now include Vinod Popat, Kishore Mohatta, Kuldeep Shekhawat, Gopal Maheshwari and Hitesh Popat.

Furthermore, MATV has also secured a batch of new films including ‘Gangajal’, ‘Choker Bali’, ‘Calcutta Mail’, ‘Dus’ and ‘Sarkar’. They will be premiered in the coming weeks to coincide with the new look of MATV.
