MATV launches live election programming

Leicester’s local terrestrial Asian broadcaster MATV Channel 6 has unveiled a collection of shows to coincide with this year’s general elections.

MATV Channel 6 is staging a unique series of Live Election 2005 broadcasts which will bring together news, views and opinions of all concerned with the Election 2005.

Amongst the participating panel will be a host of prospective election candidates from the constituency of Leicester West, Leicester South and Leicester East. The live television programmes will be hosted by two of MATV?s leading local television personalities combined with the involvement of viewers of Leicester who will have an opportunity to engage in live debate and discussion with their prospective candidates, leaders and leading commentators on issues that concern them and the country.

MATV Channel 6 is Leicester?s ?free to air? local television Channel of Choice which is popular and widely watched across the region. Renowned for its daily news bulletin programme ?Leicestershire in Focus? and many other locally produced programmes, MATV Channel 6 paves the way into interactive television enabling viewers and participants to interact live and for the first time and question the panel on issues that concern them.

Asked about the live election 2005 broadcast, the CEO of MATV Channel 6 and MATV National, Mr Vinod Popat commented; ? we believe that the MATV television platform will enable local community and our viewers who would not otherwise be involved in any debate or discussion to actively participate and question their prospective parliamentary candidates on issues of concern and importance to them in Leicester and wider?

Programming commences on Monday 25th April 2005 live from their studios in Leicester. The series of live broadcasts will be as follows:

? Monday 25th April 2005 – 7 – 9pm – Leicester West Ward
? Thursday 28th April 2005 – 7 – 9pm – Leicester South Ward
? Tuesday 3rd May 2005 – 7 – 9pm – Leicester East Ward
? Thursday 5th May 2005 – 7 – 9pm – Election Special Live

Some of MATV Channel Six’s elections shows will be relayed on its sister station MATV National on Sky Digital channel 829.
