Maratha Mandir keeps ‘DDLJ’ running by public demand

It came to a huge shock to many when the infamous Maratha Mandir decided to stop screening ‘Dilwale Dulhuniya La Jayenga’ (1995) after it’s 1009th week running since it first released. However news has it, that the film theatre have decide to continue running the film.

After the first announcement, the directors of Maratha Mandir stated that they would keep it going for another week more. However, with countless requests from fans all over the world asking them to keep the film running, the management along with Yash Raj Films decided to fulfill their requests. NDTV reported a statement from Yash Raj Films that read, “We are very happy to announce that Raj & Simran will continue to draw audiences and reinforce the timeless romance the movie has embodied over the last two decades.”

It went onto say, “The sudden announcement of DDLJ being pulled out from Maratha Mandir at the end of 1009 unprecedented weeks, resulted in a spontaneous and an overwhelming outcry from the cinema going audience, as well as dedicated fans of the movie. “Given this, it has been mutually decided to continue the screening in the same 11:30 am morning show – without breaking the uninterrupted run of the movie.”

With the request of the fans met, all seems well again in the world of Indian Cinema. Starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, ‘DDLJ’ has become a cult film, all thanks to the Maratha Mandir screening it for so long.
