Mallika Sherawat invited to speak at Oxford University

When Mallika Sherawat was asked about her comments about India and how they treat their women, she spoke honestly and abruptly about the problems facing the nation. Being an Indian-born celebrity in a western world seems to have seen a spotlight put on her comments as the video went viral. Sherawat has been invited to speak about the subject at Oxford Universrity later this month, BizAsia can reveal.

The university’s union will be organising a debate titled ‘This House Believes Gender Exists To Oppress’. The event will see attendance from influential people from around the world. According to Bollywood Hungama, Sherawat has accepted the invitation, “Yes, I have accepted the invitation. The date is set on Feb 27th. A lot of preparation is required. It’s a great honour. I come from a small town so it means a lot to be invited to speak at such a historic venue. I can use the platform to highlight issues like drop in the conviction rate in rape cases across the country”.

The Oxford Union has been known to have hosted many leaders since it’s launch in 1823.
