In response to increasing competition from rival channels and digital services, it seems mainstream television channels will soon be given extra commercial airtime.
The Times reports that plans are being considered by the government to help broadcasters like ITV and Channel 4 in rivalling with online services.
The current cap stands at seven minutes of advertising per hour but this increases to a maximum of 12 minutes per hour during prime-time. The new proposals could see TV channels raise their cap to 20 minutes per hour from next year.
