Mahesh Bhatt to step down as director

Mahesh Bhatt has decided to step down as a director, in order to give new talent a chance to make their break in Bollywood. He has directed over 40 films within 3 decades and has producedmany more, under his production house Vishesh Films.

I have said goodbye to direction. I am encouraging new talents. I am 64 years old now and at this age, encouraging upcoming talents is very satisfying,” the filmmaker stated.

Bhatt is responsible for introducing many new talents to Bollywood such as, Kunal Kemmu, as a child actor in Hum Hain Rahin Pyaar Ke۪ (1993), Emraan Hashmi in Footpath۪ (2003), Mohit Suri, director of Zeher۪ (2005), and more recently, Sunny Leone, who is soon to make her debut in Jism 2۪.

The Times of India reported that Bhatt is said to be helping Kemmu in growing within the industry, as he did with Hashmi. ”Kunal Kemmu is not a star. He needs me now, Emraan does not need me,” Bhatt informed.
